Look after your Laptop

1. Avoid drinking near your laptop. Water and electricity don’t mix.
2. Avoid eating over your laptop. Crumbs and keyboards don’t mix well.
3. Invest some time in getting programmes to clean your laptop and protect it.
4. Hold the lid in the middle and close carefully. Don’t bang it shut .
5. Don’t leave things on the keyboard and shut the lid. You will damage the screen and be in for costly repairs.
6.Look after the power cord. Ensure it’s connected securely. Don’t pull it out of the wall socket. Remove it carefully. Wind the power cord up with care when you are packing up. Don’t trail the cord where someone can trip on it.
7.Go gently on the sockets. Don’t try and force things to fit the sockets/plugs/jacks on your laptop. Make sure you know which socket is for which peripheral or cord.
8. Don’t pull out the USB drive without ejecting it first.
9.Check CDs before you load them. A quick check to verify that they are clean and don’t have lose labels works wonders.
10. Don’t leave your laptop in the car or in a sunny spot.
11.Get a professional clean if you have had it a long time to remove the dust from the inside.
12.Don’t squeeze or squash it into a case or drawer.
13.Have a sturdy case/cover/bag to store your laptop.
14. Use a flat, hard surface.
15. Using it on soft furnishings or bed will cause dust and heat problems. Laptops don’t get enough ventilation on a soft surface.
16. Get into the habit of removing the power lead before you get up. Pulling it out of the connection could damage the lead or the connection.
17.Back up your laptop. You do not want to lose your data. Do it!
18. Avoid moving it while it is on.
19. Don’t drop it! So don’t try and carry a pile of things and your laptop.
20.Brush between the keys every once in a while to keep the keyboard clean.
21. Clean the screen GENTLY. Avoid the edges and don’t use moisture. A barely damp tissue will do the trick. Avoid the edges. Use a cotton bud for those…be gentle.
22.Shut the laptop down when not in use.
23.Don’t pack with anything plugged into it.
24.Don’t put it on the floor!
25. Don’t put other things on top of it.
26. Keep the air vents clear. Check them every once in a while.
