Teaching for effective learning

Last year I explored Domain 3 of our South Australian curriculum guide Teaching for Effective Learning (TeFL) because it was something we were looking at as a school. I approached it from the point of view of developing technology in the classroom. This year, as one of the things I have committed to for my professional development, I am looking at Domain 4. It follows on logically I have found, if you work through Domain 3. Domain 4 is about personalising learning and literally educating – leading the learner out into new fields of knowledge. I do have my students on Twiducate on a regular basis so they can give feedback, share ideas with each other, connect with a school overseas and reflect about each task as we do it. This year I am getting my year 12s to blog so they can get feed back, find a more personal approach to their learning, be aware there is an outside world to connect with and see how they can shape their own learning and fill in the gaps. Having done this first part of Domain 4 I realise I just need to stretch what I was doing in Domain 3 and lead myself out of secure knowledge onto the new ground. Our TeFL is quite clever really!
